Fun, Free, Fabulous Website:)

I love http://www.readwritethink.org !  It is an effort on the part of NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English) and IRA (International Reading Association) to build literacy skills in all students.  The interactive activities can be easily adapted to whatever English proficiency level your students are at with ease.  I just finished introducing my intermediates to the persuasive essay activity and the majority of my students followed along with ease.  Of course, in every class you will have those few who do little, if anthing, no matter what you do.  There are several interactive activities that also have PDFs which you can easily download and print copies as  needed.  I will be experimenting with the comic strip activity on Wednesday with my beginners.  They will be creating stories about nature such as "why we have clouds", "why there is night and day, "  etc.  I think they will enjoy it and they will also work a bit more on paragraph details.

  1. This is an awesome site. I found another one, http://esl.fis.edu, A Guide to Learning English. it has material for teachers, students and parents. It also has grammar quizzes and articles for both mainstream and ESL teachers. Teachers are free to use the information and are requested to cite the source and include a link to the site in anything they use. One of the features is a list of academic vocabulary. You can click on the word and get a definition and have it used in at least two sentences. Terrific reference site and tool for ELLs.
