Popular Songs in American History!

In most history classes, students don't have much of an opportunity (due to the pressure of meeting content standards on time) to give students the opportunity to really get an idea of the life of the general population at the time. Song allows that to happen since the themes generally deal with major issues of the time. Here you will have the tunes along with the lyrics for kids to have fun with. POPULAR SONGS IN AMERICAN HISTORY (17th, 18th, and 19th century songs for the most part).

There are also links to quick summaries of the issues of the time. The readings are short, but for ELLs especially those short paragraphs will make the upcoming chapter(s) a bit easier to follow (along with other scaffolding techniques). I think your students will enjoy this:)
