Endangered Languages--An Online Collaborative Effort to Protect Global Linguisitic Diversity

Isn't it ironic that as the population of the world continues to expand, the number of languages spoken by its residents is dropping.  This has the potential to be a great loss to the all since once a language disappears, so does the culture.

The focus of this initiative is to find a way to slow down the trend.  If not stopped, 50% of world languages will be gone by 2100.  Information on agencies trying to save these languages is included along with email links to participate in the project.

THE WORLD THROUGH 3,054 DIFFERENT LENSES  could offer students the opportunity to explore languages and their accompanying cultures before they disappear.  It could easily be incorporated into a geography project or a social studies research paper.  The more informed students are on this sad chapter in world history, the better the chances are of reversing this trend towards oblivion.
