Great movies are many times based on great novels. Many high school students do not often see that connection. Khan Academy has taken on Les Miserables to clarify which French Revolution the film is based on. Students will be shocked at the number of uprisings which took place in France from 1789 to 1870. Both English and world history teachers will appreciate this link as a source to scaffold this chapter of historical literature/history for their long-term English language learners. The timelines and visuals will both provide that critical context needed to support their efforts at understanding the period.
